The
prayer hall is oriented towards the kiblat. This
orientation is accentuated by parallel vertical
planes, which house functions moving inward from
the secular to the sacred.
The
Mihrab wall is a three-storey high canted structure
to create sense of awe. It is lit by diffused
light through a slit-skylight. On the wall are
back-lit Arabic inscriptions to create an ethereal
and religious mood.
The
hall is flanked by arabesque screens to allow
natural ventilation whilst diffusing direct light
from the external. Including the extended prayer
areas, the mosque can accommodate up to 4000 people
during important functions.
